The Weekend Brand Sprint
You have a business idea and a free weekend. By Sunday evening, you want a registered domain, a basic visual identity, and the confidence that your brand foundation is solid. This is not only possible -- it is the approach many successful founders have used to move from idea to action.
Saturday Morning: Define Your Brief
Spend the first two hours writing a clear description of your business. What problem do you solve? Who is your customer? What is your personality -- professional, playful, bold, minimal? Write this down. It becomes the input for everything that follows.
Do not overthink this. Your business will evolve, and your brief does not need to be perfect. It needs to be clear enough to guide naming decisions.
Saturday Afternoon: Generate and Filter
Use AI naming tools to generate a broad set of candidates. Start with your business description as a prompt and explore multiple naming styles: invented words, compound words, real words, and metaphors. Aim for a long list of fifty or more candidates.
Then filter aggressively. Remove anything that is hard to spell, hard to pronounce, or too similar to existing brands in your space. Check domain availability for your remaining candidates across .com and your preferred alternative extensions.
By Saturday evening, you should have a shortlist of five to ten names with available domains.
Sunday Morning: Evaluate and Decide
Sleep on your shortlist. Fresh eyes in the morning will tell you which names still feel strong and which have lost their appeal. Share your top three with a trusted friend or advisor -- not for their opinion on which is best, but to catch any negative associations or pronunciation issues you might have missed.
Choose your name by Sunday noon. Trust your instinct. If two names are close, go with the one that is easier to spell and has the better domain available.
Sunday Afternoon: Secure and Set Up
Register your domain immediately. Set up basic social media accounts with your brand name. If you have design skills, create a simple logo. If not, use a text-based logo with a clean font -- this is perfectly adequate for launch and can be refined later.
By Sunday evening, you have a registered domain, secured social handles, and a basic brand identity. You have moved from idea to brand in forty-eight hours. Everything from here is iteration and improvement.
Why Speed Matters
The longer a naming decision takes, the more likely it is to stall entirely. Analysis paralysis is the most common failure mode in startup naming. A good name chosen quickly beats a perfect name chosen never. You can always rebrand later if your business outgrows your name, but you cannot launch a business without one.
