Client brief
We are building a new "job search" web site, only I really don't like the term "search" because it implies hard work on both sides (as it currently is on other sites). Our site would be more like an internet dating site than one of the existing job search sites. We want the name to evoke images of the right job, or candidate, rising up (or being pre filtered/sifted) through the rest of the less interesting listings, looking for the user.
One of the leading competitor sites is Monster; we'd like to be able to make a play on that, portraying ourselves as "monster slayers" or a light that will fend off monsters and make it easier to find things.
Another competitor is "Seek". This term is liked "search", we want to be able to play with this and highlight that our site does more of the work for you.
The domain name should not be too focused on "jobs", as we would eventually like to expand into other verticals, and either pre/append the following subdomains or TLDS: .jobs, .careers, .realestate, cars, .travel, .love/.dating etc. We also require a matching .com domain.
Ideally, the full domain (with vertical-specific subdomain or TLD) should make sense and roll of the tongue - eg
- ideal.jobs (idea.realestate, ideal.cars...)
- jobs.4me.com (realestate.4me.com, cars.4me.com...
Note:
- .com must be available
- primary domain must not contain "job" or anything directly related to this vertical.
It should be easy to guess the spelling. That said, I'm not opposed to "trendy" abbreviations like flickr and bit.ly

Naming tips for Job "search" web site
Keep it pronounceable
A good business name should be easy to say out loud and spell from memory. If you have to spell it out every time you say it, it will slow down word-of-mouth growth.
.com still beats clever TLDs
Despite hundreds of new extensions, .com remains the most trusted TLD for professional brands. Customers default to typing .com - pick a .com name whenever possible.
Avoid trademark traps
Before you register, run a quick trademark search to make sure the name is clear in your industry. Similar names in the same category can lead to costly disputes later.
Test it in a sentence
Say "I work at [name]" or "Check us out at [name].com" out loud. The name should sound natural, confident, and memorable in everyday conversation.
