Client brief

We are launching a business that will combine meditation, flotation, and psychotherapy. Conventional therapy is focused on talking with a therapist. We have found that patients get the most out of therapy when they are relaxed and open to explore their inner realms.

To enhance relaxation and and openness, we will be offering meditation and flotation therapy to clients who come for psychotherapy. There are plenty of places on the web to learn about the benefits of flotation therapy. This is also called "sensory deprivation therapy" or an "isolation tank", where a person enters into a soundproof and completely dark tank and floats on about ten inches of body temperature water. Because the water has a high concentration of salt, a person can effortlessly float. It is an "out-of-this-world" experience. Many people report feeling deeply rested and deeply connected to their inner self after floating. Flotation has been reported to offer benefits for people who suffer from insomnia and stress. Many floaters report that their flotation experience helps them experience extremely deep levels of meditative awareness.

We are looking for a name to have a deep significance related to wellness, positive mental health, and personal growth. We will be targeting educated professionals who are overstimulated and would benefit from some "sensory deprivation". We are looking for a name (and domain name) that captures the essence of what we offer.

"FlotationTherapy" would work, but the domain is already taken, and it is too long and a bit boring. I'd love to have a name that captures the essence of flotation and therapy. If someone is really creative, I am open to ideas for names that don't include the word "float" or "flotation". Ideally the name would be less than 10 letters, but if someone comes up with a catchy phrase that is longer, I am open to that. I am also open to a name that does not use the word "float", if the name captures what we are trying to do.

Naming tips for Flotation therapy

Keep it pronounceable

A good business name should be easy to say out loud and spell from memory. If you have to spell it out every time you say it, it will slow down word-of-mouth growth.

.com still beats clever TLDs

Despite hundreds of new extensions, .com remains the most trusted TLD for professional brands. Customers default to typing .com - pick a .com name whenever possible.

Avoid trademark traps

Before you register, run a quick trademark search to make sure the name is clear in your industry. Similar names in the same category can lead to costly disputes later.

Test it in a sentence

Say "I work at [name]" or "Check us out at [name].com" out loud. The name should sound natural, confident, and memorable in everyday conversation.
