Client brief

We are merging 2 IT/Technology companies and need a name for the new entity (we don't want to use elements from our old company names, so not listing them here).

We are an outsourced IT business who helps small businesses understand, implement, maintain and manage technology in their business. Our focus at the moment is on Microsoft's Office365 and Azure platforms all based around Cloud Computing, however we don't necessarily want to be tied to these concepts unless it is subtle.

Some concepts we would like to see portrayed are;

  • trust
  • forward thinking
  • simplicity
  • fun
  • professional

The domain name needs to be able to be branded well across all collateral (website, emails, documents etc). It must also be easy to say on the phone (e.g. Hello, , John speaking".)

Our target audience is small business owners in Australia with between 5 and 150 employees. We want to be able to convey trust, whilst also looking fairly young / forward thinking (as we help companies take advantage of the latest technology).

A shorter word (e.g. google) would be good, but we understand that this is hard, so we're open to double words (e.g. adding team or maybe a colour (e.g. blue - like the bluechilli.com).

Names / Brands we love: pollenizer bluechilli accenture atlassian apple amazon google

Words we don't want to use directly:

  • technology
  • cloud
  • computers
  • telco
  • geek

Prefer also not to use tech, or IT in the domain name, but will consider it if the idea is exceptionally good.

Desired domain extensions: .com.au .com (strongly preferred but not essential)

Domain associated keywords: Some words/concepts we like (just listing them to provide some thoughts - prefer if you use your own imagination): vision next works think Dynamic Elastic Forward Focus Up Data Synergy Proactive Outside the box Future Value Premium Change Solution

Naming tips for Technology solutions company

Keep it pronounceable

A good business name should be easy to say out loud and spell from memory. If you have to spell it out every time you say it, it will slow down word-of-mouth growth.

.com still beats clever TLDs

Despite hundreds of new extensions, .com remains the most trusted TLD for professional brands. Customers default to typing .com - pick a .com name whenever possible.

Avoid trademark traps

Before you register, run a quick trademark search to make sure the name is clear in your industry. Similar names in the same category can lead to costly disputes later.

Test it in a sentence

Say "I work at [name]" or "Check us out at [name].com" out loud. The name should sound natural, confident, and memorable in everyday conversation.
