Client brief

We are effectively a custom software dev firm. Rather than market ourselves as a "software agency" we market ourselves as a "solutions as a service provider" becuase we've created our own re-usable platform that we can build software on faster for business clientele. We build and host custom/semi-custom SaaS tailored to our clients' needs at a price comparable to enterprise licensing an existing solution.

Our target audience is small to medium businesses $3M to $20M in revenue with specific digital needs that are not fully met by currently available enterprise or SAAS solutions.

We have worked with the following sectors: companies that grow plants (horticulture), the medical marijuana industry, e-commerce companies handling their own manufacturing or fulfillment processes, and training/education technology companies.

Our solutions work well with companies that have lots of human/physical processes that they're moving to a digital control/planning/tracking/reporting process of some form. Because "going digital" is hard, our solutions streamline bringing those business processes into purpose-built software.

We often become close partners with the companies we work wirh. We need a smart, brandable, trustworthy name that's relatively easy to spell and say. One to two words are preferable. We like names that are rooted in mythology or have other historical/hidden meaning that can contribute to brandability and uniqueness.

Some existing brand names we've liked are:

Envy Labs, Atlas, Andela, Apollo, Expo, Geeky.Media, ActiveLogic, Grow, Kratos, Xero

We are open to all suggestions as long as some domain (including less common ones like .io) are available for the brand name.

Tips for choosing a great business name

Keep it pronounceable

A good business name should be easy to say out loud and spell from memory. If you have to spell it out every time you say it, it will slow down word-of-mouth growth.

.com still beats clever TLDs

Despite hundreds of new extensions, .com remains the most trusted TLD for professional brands. Customers default to typing .com - pick a .com name whenever possible.

Avoid trademark traps

Before you register, run a quick trademark search to make sure the name is clear in your industry. Similar names in the same category can lead to costly disputes later.

Test it in a sentence

Say "I work at [name]" or "Check us out at [name].com" out loud. The name should sound natural, confident, and memorable in everyday conversation.
