Client brief

Hi. I need the title for a self-help book (possibly with a tag line) that will help people achieve their goals. It's based on the principle of 'agency', the ability to do things. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agency_(sociology)

In my work, which involves helping people to start a new career, especially in self employment, I encounter too many people who never get started. Something hold them back.

But it gets worse. Too many people are overlooked at work. Restricted by their spouse. Messed about by their children. Taken for granted by their friends. Most of us accept what life has given us. We defer to others. So we lose out. But there *is *an alternative. It’s called Agency.

Agency is the science of being in control. It’s about making decisions, and being in charge of you. I want to show people how to get what’s theirs.

The book will focus on practical solutions: Identifying what's holding you back, knowing 'what's the worst that can happen', and taking things one step at a time.

The book (and possibly an associated blog/website) will have some elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which aims to hepl people out of depresion, phobias, and self imposed limitations. But the book is more than just about eliminating negative thoughts; it will be a practical toolkit for action. and it covers every aspect of live: love, work, bosses, children, family, parents, and friends.

I want the title to be distinctive, positive and upbeat - people are already surrounded by enough negative thoughts.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The reader is likely to be a woman, aged between 30 and 50. She wants to get more out of life. Life is passing her by, and she’s taken for granted by those around her. She reads self-improvement books.

Millennials are a secondary market. Many are concerned about personal growth, and they suffer from anxiety, due in part to precarity and burnout

Naming tips for Self-Help Book Title

Keep it pronounceable

A good business name should be easy to say out loud and spell from memory. If you have to spell it out every time you say it, it will slow down word-of-mouth growth.

.com still beats clever TLDs

Despite hundreds of new extensions, .com remains the most trusted TLD for professional brands. Customers default to typing .com - pick a .com name whenever possible.

Avoid trademark traps

Before you register, run a quick trademark search to make sure the name is clear in your industry. Similar names in the same category can lead to costly disputes later.

Test it in a sentence

Say "I work at [name]" or "Check us out at [name].com" out loud. The name should sound natural, confident, and memorable in everyday conversation.
