Five years ago I was diagnosed with cancer. At age 38 I wasn't expecting this and I took it hard. I had only been married for 10 years and my son was 4 years old. I was scared and angry. Undergoing treatment gave me plenty of time to think. What could have caused this? If I died tomorrow would I have any regrets? I quickly realized that my priorities were wrong. I had been living to work, not working to live. I was working sometimes 10 - 12 hours days 6 days a week. And when I spent time with my family, I physically was there, but my mind was at work. I always answered emails and calls, even on the weekends or on vacations. I always worried that it was never enough for my clients. Meanwhile, my family suffered. I also ate wrong and never exercised. I gained weight. In short, I was one fat, stress ball that could never relax. How my wife still loves me is beyond me, but I'm lucky. I quickly realized that my cancer was probably a by-product of my terrible lifestyle. Form that point forward, I made it my mission to get healthier and spend more time with my family, knowing when to "switch off". This site will highlight that journey in my trying to find balance in my stressful life. Between owning and running a business, making time to take care of myself by eating right and exercising more and spending quality time with my family, it's tough to find that right balance. I intend to do the best that I can to find it. In doing this I hope to keep myself on track and accountable for my actions. In the process I hope to help others who are suffering from the same issues, provide hope to those that need it and encourage a sense of community between visitors to the site. I'm sure I'm not the only person in this world who puts work ahead of everything else in life. Hopefully, my voice can help them, too. I always remember, one thing they will never put on someone's tombstone is, "If only he spent more time at the office."
