Client brief
We are a website development company and have been in business since 2003. Recently we have found ourselves expanding into other areas of IT, including server administration, structured cabling (Networking), IP Telephones, and all other aspects of Information Technology. Because our services are so varied, we would like either a generic name, IE Pleth that can mean anything (IE made up words) or a word that can be expanded upon, for example Pleth could be expanded to Pleth Web and Pleth Design and Pleth Branding to give each area of our business a separate website and domain.
We are a small company offering 24/7 service. Our customers are our only priority. We aim to please everyone who walks through our doors.
To summarize, we offer all manner of IT services. We aim to be your technology partner, no matter what your needs are.
We are completely unsure of where we would like to go with this new name. We are completely open. It could be "boring" like "Microsoft" or it could be trendy like "Ars Technica". What we need is something that is memorable and can be branded while still be generic enough to allow us to advertise all of our services under one umbrella.
Names we like:
Pleth - This is a made up word which would allow us to do what we wanted to with it. "Pleth Branding", "Pleth Web", etc....
Tech Daddies - This name is nice and generic but is far too silly for a serious business. It also cannot be expanded upon. "Tech Daddies Branding" is far too cumbersome to remember.
Megapath - Another made up word but it illustrates a clear point. This is a company that started in high end networking and their name illustrates that. On the same hand, if they wished to get into branding in the future, they easily could. "Megapath Branding" is just as catchy as "Megapath"

Tips for choosing a great business name
Keep it pronounceable
A good business name should be easy to say out loud and spell from memory. If you have to spell it out every time you say it, it will slow down word-of-mouth growth.
.com still beats clever TLDs
Despite hundreds of new extensions, .com remains the most trusted TLD for professional brands. Customers default to typing .com - pick a .com name whenever possible.
Avoid trademark traps
Before you register, run a quick trademark search to make sure the name is clear in your industry. Similar names in the same category can lead to costly disputes later.
Test it in a sentence
Say "I work at [name]" or "Check us out at [name].com" out loud. The name should sound natural, confident, and memorable in everyday conversation.
